In 2022, a sudden heart attack and subsequent surgery forced our founder onto a long road of recovery. The prescription was simple: walk every night for three months to rebuild respiratory strength.
Night after night, the same cracked pavement under his feet, each step a negotiation between his healing chest and the humid Singapore air that felt too thick to breathe. These walks were lonely, often painful. Stripped of his usual rhythm, he became hyper-aware of the world on the margins. He began noticing the street cats, friendly yet aimless, silently navigating their own daily fight for food and safety.
Then came the second setback: a sudden layoff. This combined crisis left him feeling utterly low, vulnerable, and adrift.
The Catalyst: The Surge of Acceptance
The moment arrived in a desolate warehouse. A litter of newborn kittens and their struggling mother. A need so vast it could have justified walking away. But something stopped him.
He stood there, empty pockets, empty purpose, staring at a ginger kitten who needed everything. The rational voice screamed: You can't even take care of yourself. But then Mario looked up—not with need, but with something else. Acceptance. And for the first time in months, someone needed him to show up.
